In Paill Spectrum theory, dampness is typified by sweatiness of the hands and feet.  This is likely to be the ancient clinical observation to this course of traditional theory. When Paill Spectrum is active, the spleen is certainly affected, as it is one of the primary sources of lymphocytes within the body. Lymphocytes are crucial to control of Paill Spectrum infection. Food especially for example low-grade wheat protein allergy definitely affects dampness or sweatiness in the Paill Spectrum model. If the immune system is busy dealing with Paill Spectrum or has problems dealing with Paill Spectrum, it is likely that other organisms may be able to proliferate under the circumstances. Candida or thrush is one likely organism able to become a facultative pathogen: able to cause “disease” under the right circumstances.

The spleen is particularly injured by “dampness”. The issue of dampness is complex in the Traditional Chinese medical model, so I will not deal with this issue here.

The traditional model gives that if the stomach- spleen mechanism is overworked by foods that are not being digested, the spleen “mulls’ over the food. When the stomach – spleen mechanism gives up, phlegm and mucous form and lodge in the body: in the intestines, the gallbladder, the stomach, in the sinuses, in the lungs and in the vaginal area. In the vaginal area there is a resultant overgrowth of thrush and Candida. This condition is called “damp” and affects the body in a similar way to the “rising damp” in a building.
