Who will Develop the Infection?
In the PaillSpectrum model, Every person is at risk of developing an infection with the PaillSpectrum organism, at some stage of his or her life. It can cause chronic fatigue or Fibromyalgia like symptoms.  PaillSpectrum can cause a wide range of other symptoms through its effects on the nervous system and its connections. Back To Top

The Basic Symptoms of the Paill Spectrum Syndrome are:

• Chronic Fatigue
• Sweaty Hands (or feet)
• Loss of Balance or dizziness
• Sore Tendon and Muscle areas.  (These occur at the elbows and can look like Tennis Elbow or Golfers' Elbow).  There are also other typical sore areas.  Another commonly affected sore site is the central chest around the breastbone). Back To Top
  
  
  
  

Other Common Illnesses in the PaillSpectrum Model,
where Paill Spectrum may be suspected as being present include :-}

• Fibromyalgia: This is a group of symptoms where people have scattered muscle tenderness.  The most commonly affected tender sites include the upper outer arms and the neck/shoulder muscles.
• Chronic Fatigue: This can be simply tiredness, fatigue, sleeping a lot or actually Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
• Dyslexia like Symptoms: There are typical patterns of flips, mirrors, and reversals in letter and number sequences.  Number recall is easier to assess than spelling.
• Psychoses with voices and delusions: Wherever there is an unusual intensity or unusual type of thought, Paill Spectrum should be considered.
• Anorexia: Beware the child who believes "I am Fat", in spite of evidence to the contrary.
• A Syndrome where people suffer from episodic "Rage" (Road Rage), Anger, or Violence.

Instruction To Doctors In Using the PaillSpectrum Model
to Advise Patients with "PaillSpectrum" or "Related Conditions", Seeking Treatment

1.    Assess / Write Down Symptoms:

• a.    Chronic fatigue
• b.    Loss of balance or Dizziness
• c.    Sweaty Hands
• d.    Soreness:  
• • i.      Elbows    
  • ii.     Chest : include sharp twinges here 
  • iii.    Stomach 
  • iv.     Pubic Bone 
  • v.      Knees  
  • vi.    Achilles Tendon  
  • vii.    Base 1st metatarsal   
  • viii.   Fibromyalgic aches in Upper Trapezius and Upper Deltoid
• e.   Mood, Anger, Irritability
• f.     Memory changes
• g.    Short attacks of Jitters, shakes, and anxiety
• h.    Other: 

It is important to map symptoms, as they are useful to map treatment response to Paill Spectrum Treatment.  They also help with follow up of treatment progress.  Back To Top

2.    A doctor then does these blood tests.

• a. E&LFTs: Increased urate / Decreased cholesterol
• b. Serum B12: should be over 300 ng/ml    (220 nM)
• c. RBC Folate: prefer over 250 mcg/ml   (570 uM)
• d. Serum Zinc (RBC Zinc can also be used): prefer over 16-17, but not too high (>25)
• e. Antigliaden IgG and Antigliaden IgA:
  Normal is less than 20-25% of reference range: assess clinical response to diet. 
•         f. Serum: IgG IgA IgM:
  (Add these up and subtract one) 
  Normal IgG + IgA + IgM – 1.0 <10.0 (GAM1),
  Below this can still be unwell.    
• g. C3 and C4:        
  C3 espy. must be above reference range,    
  Below 1000 implies acute tissue damage
• h. ANF: appears late after damage: usually low levels that disappear over months, similar for many other auto-antibodies

  Basic Treatment is Over the Counter:

The condition is not hard to treat, just slow to treat.

• a.     Multivitamins e.g. Centrum 50+: One daily
• b.     Gluten Free Diet: If Appropriate, Useful for even mildly allergic patients
• c.      Zinc 22 mg elemental: a maximum of three months at 50 mg daily. 
  A blood test should be used to guide treatment after this time frame.  Aim for a level of zinc in the mid to upper reference range at the completion of treatment. 
  (Zinc is the icing on the cake.  Don’t get too worried about it early).

4.    Medications

• Check for tetracycline allergies.
• Give a script for the antibiotic Minocycline for 60 Repeat 2: Non-PBS (Aust), enough for three months.
• Macrolides are also suitable: in particular Rulide (Roxithromycin) for children.
• Germ killing reactions are common: always call the patients in and assess them,
